Description This DVD is playable in ALL Regions. SPECIAL FEATURES -Available in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Korean, with or without English subtitles -Chapter titles for easy scene access -Biographical information on director and leading actors -In the DVD-ROM folder: Christian History magazine article and study guide/worksheets in .pdf format -Abridged version with commentary by Ken Curtis A true story, God's Outlaw is about international politics, church intrigue, cold-blooded betrayal, and false justice ending in a criminal's death. But it's also about victorious faith and spiritual triumph over some of the greatest political and religious forces known in the 16th century. A simple God-seeking man, William Tyndale somehow became one of the most wanted men in England and all of Europe. Pursued by King Henry VIII, Lord Chancellor Sir Thomas More, and the Pope's personal legate Cardinal Wolsey, he darted across Europe to avoid capture--always pushing to complete the task that obsessed him. The task was translating the Bible into English and publishing it for his fellow countrymen--Englishmen who lived in a country where the Bible and even prayers in English were outlawed by a harsh and rigid religious establihsment. Today he is renowned as "the father of the English Bible," and is recognized as one of the major leaders of the English Reformation. But the tale of how he lived and died as "God's outlaw" is a compelling "rest-of-the-story," and is especially a moving encouragement for modern people of faith.

A Creative And Entertaining Look At The History Of The English Bible February 6, 2010 Indiana Jeff Reynolds (Indianapolis, IN USA) This movie was nominated for a total of zero Academy Awards. So what? It was a very effective telling of the life of William Tyndale. I remember a church showing this movie in the late '80's/early '90's, and while not state of the art, it achieves at its goal.
The focus of the movie is William Tyndale, who at the time of the Reformation translated Scripture into English. It tells of the dangers Tyndale faced, but it is dealt with well. It includes the role of Thomas More, an author of his own right and a faithful Catholic, and it shows respect to More's faith, including More's martyrdom in remaining faithful to the Catholic Church.
One element that I found intriguing were scenes where Tyndale was dealing with his translation. One might realize that Tyndale's translation was a major influence on the King James Version, and there are elements where it shows that influence.
As usual, I feel parents should watch this movie with their children. But I also think every youth group, every Christian middle school/high school class, and every church attender should see this movie. It will remind us that our faith in Christ and our devotion to God's Word may have a high price tag.
Wonderful capture of our history January 13, 2010 Plain Servant (Oregon) This movie was true to history. It was great for viewing with young adults. It is a wonderful piece of work for our Christian collection.
Outstanding January 8, 2010 L. Jolley (southern california) In the age of many christians not bothering to read the bible, this is a reminder how precious it is. It's not a good luck charm. It is useful only if applied.
Honest, brave unique January 1, 2010 Jp Vent This is an excellent movie; the likes of which I haven't seen in the movie industry. What I mean is, it's very honest and brave when it comes to presenting the truth just as it is recorded in history, with no embellishments when it comes to exposing the reprehensible behavior of the clerics and prelates towards those who were groping for illumination from the Bible. There are very few characters as brave as Tyndale who had the guts to fight for what he believed in, which was spreading the good news to those skinned and thrown about in a spiritual sense. Unlike the clerics, Tyndale used his education and sophisticated knowledge not to be ministered to but to serve others. I highly recommend this movie.
Great Bible History DVD October 17, 2009 Lizwel (Baton Rouge, LA) I enjoyed watching this movie. I really appreciate the fact that we have free access to the Word of God today. Thank God for people like William Tyndale, who gave his life so everyone could have a chance to read and understand God's Word. It is so ironic that the very person who tried to stop Tyndale from translating and printing the Bible in a way that commom people everywhere could understand it was the one who authorized it to be published after Tynsdale was executed.
